DESCRIPTION:  SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for
              network management. The NET SNMP project includes various SNMP
              tools: an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting
              or setting information from SNMP agents, tools for generating and
              handling SNMP traps, a version of the netstat command which uses
              SNMP, and a Tk/Perl mib browser. This package contains the snmpd
              and snmptrapd daemons, documentation, etc.


SUPPORTED FEATURES & DEVICES: The following Linux installations are supported
  by this release:
  1. Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional Server default installation.

ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
  1. Added HP Insight Management Agents Extension (cmaX).
  2. Added MIB files for "enterprises.compaq" MIBs.
  3. Turned on snmpd script at runlevels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

HOW TO USE:
1.  Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and change to
    that directory.
           net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm
           net-snmp-utils-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm
           net-snmp-devel-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm (optional)
           net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.src.rpm        (optional)

2.  Only "net-snmp" and "net-snmp-utils" RPMs are required by HP Insight
    Mangement Agents for Servers. Use following command to install/upgrade:

    #rpm -Uvh net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm \
              net-snmp-utils-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm
    
3.  After the RPM is installed, you may delete the previously downloaded files.

1.  Introduction

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for
network management. The NET-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools:
an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting or setting
information from SNMP agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP
traps, a version of the netstat command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl
mib browser. This package contains the snmpd and snmptrapd daemons,
documentation, etc.

In order to support HP Insight Management Agents for Servers, HP repackaged the
"net-snmp" RPMs, which are based on Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional distribution,
to include HP Insight Management Agents Extension (cmaX) for supporting
"enterprises.compaq" MIBs.

There are total four RPMs: net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm,
                           net-snmp-utils-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm,
                           net-snmp-devel-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm and
                           net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.src.rpm.

    4.1 Installing from RPMs

        a. Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and
           change to that directory.

             net-snmp-devel-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm (optional)
             net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.src.rpm        (optional)

        b.  Only "net-snmp" and "net-snmp-utils" RPMs are required by HP Insight
            Mangement Agents for Servers. Use following command to
            install/upgrade:

           #rpm -Uvh net-snmp-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm \
                     net-snmp-utils-5.0.1-6cmaX.4.i386.rpm

    4.2 Installing from Management CD version 6.10

        a. Insert Management CD into CD-ROM drive and log in as "root"
           user.
        b. Mount Management CD at directory /mnt/cdrom using following
           command:
           #mount /dev/cdrom
        c. Only "net-snmp" and "net-snmp-utils" RPMs are required by HP Insight
           Mangement Agents for Servers. Use following command to
           install/upgrade:
           #cd /mnt/cdrom/agents/linux/eng/compaq/ucdsnmp/rh80
           #rpm -Uvh snmp.rpm snmputil.rpm
        d. Un-mount the Management CD:
           #cd /
           #umount /dev/cdrom
        e. Remove the Management CD from CD-ROM drive.
