Welcome to SmartStart v8.40 The SmartStart CD includes the following tools to enhance the deployment and manageability of Linux on HP ProLiant Servers: o Linux ProLiant Support Pack (PSP)—The Linux PSP contains drivers, utilities, agents, and applications for ProLiant servers. The Linux PSP can be installed using a GUI-based, terminal window-based or silent scriptable installation. o Linux Diskette Builder Utility—The Linux Diskette Builder Utility provides diskettes for supported ProLiant storage options. Supported Distributions of Linux The SmartStart CD provides supports Linux on the following Intel- or AMD-based servers: o AMD-based 32-bit servers o AMD Opteron-based 64-bit servers o Intel-based 32-bit servers o Intel-based Enhanced Memory Technology 64-bit servers The SmartStart CD provides supports the following distributions of Linux on the supported servers: o Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 o Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 o SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 o SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 11 Minimum Requirements Before installing these updates, the server must meet the following configuration requirements. o Legacy compatibility libraries must be loaded. The Autorun script detects missing libraries and prompts for their installation. For example, SLES 11, 32, or 64 bit requires the compatibility RPM package. o The command interpreter (shell) /bin/bash must be installed. o For Autorun capabilties, the system must be running X with a window manager and a browser must be installed. o For some distributions, the CD must be mounted and the ./autorun command executed for Autorun to function. Installation of the Linux ProLiant Support Pack Using Autorun If Autorun is configured on the target Linux server, the Linux PSP can be installed using Autorun. Red Hat distributions include Autorun. If Autorun is not installed, it must be installed and configured before beginning the installation. Autorun will typically mount the CD-ROM on /media/cdrom for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and SUSE-based distributions. Note: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 SP2 automount the CD with the noexec property set. Before starting Autorun, the CD must be first be unmounted and then manually remounted. For other distributions, several Autorun utilities are available for download from various Internet sites. These distributions typically mount the CD-ROM on /media/cdrom. For the purposes of this readme, the CD-ROM is assumed to have been mounted on /mnt/mnt. The actual mount point should replace /mnt/mnt when executing these instructions. To use the SmartStart CD in Linux, complete the following steps: 1. Login on the console as root. 2. Insert the SmartStart CD. If Autorun is activated, skip the next step. 3. If Autorun is not activated, manually mount the CD and execute the Autorun script (e.g., /mnt/mnt/autorun). 4. On the "End User License Agreement" screen, click the "Agree" button if you agree with the terms of the agreement, or click the "Disagree" button to exit Autorun. 5. Select the "Software" tab. 6. Select the "Install the ProLiant Support Pack" option to install the Linux PSP. Manual Installation of the Linux PSP For the remainder of this readme, the CD mount directory is considered to be /mnt/mnt. The actual mount point should replace "/mnt/mnt" when executing these instructions. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and SUSE-based distributions mount CDs on /media/cdrom. If the CD-ROM mount point is not defined in etc/fstab, a complete mount command is required. To manually install the Linux PSP, complete the following steps: 1. Login on the console as root. 2. Insert the SmartStart CD. 3. Mount the CD (e.g., mount /mnt/mnt or mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/mnt). 4. Change to the /compaq/csp/linux directory. 5. Execute the ./hpsum command to install the Linux PSP. 6. The installer will open an interactive session for the Linux PSP installation.
