FILE NAME: mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd.gz TITLE: Driver diskette for HP U320 SCSI Adapter, SAS HBA with RAID, SCxxXe and SCxxGe HBA series (x86/AMD32) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) VERSION: 3.02.83.20-2 LANGUAGE: English CATEGORY: Driver Diskettes DIVISION: N/A OPERATING SYSTEM: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes DESCRIPTION: This driver diskette image provides the binary driver module pre-built for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) to enable the HP ProLiant 64-bit/133-MHz Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA and HP U320 64-Bit Single Channel SCSI G2 HBA, HP U320 64-Bit Single Channel SCSI HBA, HP 8 Internal Port SAS/SATA HBA with RAID and HP 4 Internal Port SAS HBA with RAID, HP SCxxXe and SCxxGe series of HBA. Using this driver diskette at Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 installation time allows the most up-to-date driver version included in the diskette to be used, rather than the default driver version contained in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 installation CD. FIXES - None. ENHANCEMENTS - Added support for Update 5. The kernels of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) supported by this driver diskette are: 2.6.9-34.EL - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 3 (x86) 2.6.9-42.EL - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4 (x86) 2.6.9-55.EL - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 5 (x86) INSTALLATION CREATING A DRIVER DISKETTE MAKING A DISKETTE UNDER A LINUX-LIKE OS: 1) Save the "mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd.gz" file into a temporary directory. Use GUNZIP to extract "mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd" from this file into the same directory 2) To make a diskette under Linux (or any other Linux-like operating system), you must have permission to write to the device representing a 3.5-inch diskette drive (known as /dev/fd0 under Linux) 3) First, label a blank, formatted diskette appropriately (ProLiant Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Driver Diskette). Insert the diskette into the floppy drive, but DO NOT issue the mount command: # dd if=mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k 4) This command creates a diskette containing the image of the input file (if=mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd) to an output file (of=/dev/fd0) using the diskette size of 1440k (1.44MB). To make another diskette label that diskette, and run "dd" again, specifying the correct input file. INSTALLATION To install Linux using this "ProLiant Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4" Driver Diskette, boot your Linux machine with your Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 CD1 in your CD-ROM Drive. A menu will be displayed, prompting for your input. Type the following line of code to inform the operating system of the diskette: # linux dd Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 will prompt for the Updates Diskette and the ProLiant Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Driver Diskette during the installation procedure. NOTES Note: If HP System Insight Manager support is required, please install the mptlinux-3.02.83.20-2.rhel4.i686.dd.gz after the OS has completed its installation process and is successfully booting.
